Rectificación (correction invoice) explained
A rectificación is a correction invoice — used when an issued invoice needs to be changed properly, without editing the original.
Definition
Rectificación means correction. In Spanish invoicing, a factura rectificativa (correction invoice) is the official way to fix a mistake or change an already-issued invoice.
When you see this term
You need a correction invoice when you have already issued an invoice and then discover an error — wrong price, wrong client details, incorrect tax rate, or a returned service.
Real-world example
You issue invoice FAC-2027-012 for €600 but later realise you quoted €550. You cannot simply edit FAC-2027-012. You create a correction invoice that references FAC-2027-012 and records the difference.
Common mistake
The most common mistake is editing an already-issued invoice instead of creating a correction. This breaks the invoice record chain and can cause compliance problems.
What to ask your gestor
If you are unsure whether a correction invoice is needed, ask your gestor before changing anything.
